League of Legends Lecture is for students who are dedicated to achieving a high level of improvement and reaching a competitive level (i.e. looking to play in high school, collegiate, or pro). This class requires a mentality that mirrors the commitment required to achieve excellence in any other pursuit- from academics, athletics, music, etc. If you are merely looking for a fun distraction, this class is not for you.
The course will explore and analyze League of Legends, a popular video game and cultural phenomenon, through multiple lenses, including gameplay, eSports, psychology, and game design. Students will also have the opportunity to improve their own gameplay through weekly homework assignments and in-class practice sessions.
As players interact with the champions and their environments on Summoner’s Rift, they encounter innumerable situations that produce tense moments between one another. Sensitive and tactful players can often massage these moments out of existence, but they can also escalate into full-on fights that form much of the toxic behavior that League of Legends is known for.
Learn how to recognize and respond to these tense moments by improving your ability to read the situation, understand what is going on around you, and most importantly, make good decisions when things aren’t going your way.
